About the Client
Our client partner is a US-based website SaaS company, with a modern AI first software outlook. They are rethinking how software is built by embedding automation, AI assisted workflows, and strong engineering standards directly into the development lifecycle. The focus is on fast iteration, reliable systems, and scalable quality practices.
About the Role
We’re rethinking what Quality Assurance means in a modern, AI first engineering organization.
We’re looking for a QA Lead who is not a traditional manual tester or department manager, but a builder, strategist, and coach. This is a senior individual contributor role focused on defining how quality is embedded into the software development lifecycle through automation, modern tooling, and developer enablement, not through handoffs or test gates.
This role does not manage a QA team and is not expected to build one. Instead, you will operate as a player coach, doing some hands-on work while guiding developers to own quality as part of an AI assisted development model.
You will work closely with Engineering leadership to design and implement a quality strategy that scales with AI assisted development, CI CD pipelines, and fast iteration cycles.
What You’ll Be Doing
You will not be leading a large QA organization or managing headcount. The goal is to build systems and practices that reduce the need for manual QA work over time. Your impact comes from technical leadership, coaching, and automation, not team size.
Day-to-day responsibilities:
- Define the future of QA by establishing a modern quality strategy centred on automation first testing, AI assisted workflows, and developer ownership
- Define what good testing looks like in 2026 and beyond, including what gets automated, when, how, and by whom
- Identify where manual testing still adds value and where it should disappear entirely
- Design and implement automated testing frameworks using Playwright, modern CI runners, and Cursor
- Personally automate critical user journeys and system flows to establish strong baseline coverage and standards
- Ensure tests are reliable, fast, and actionable rather than flaky or ignored
- Build and maintain infrastructure to run tests locally, on demand, and inside CI/CD pipelines
- Integrate testing into existing build and deployment workflows without slowing engineering teams down
- Partner with DevOps and platform teams to ensure quality integrates cleanly into deployment processes
- Coach engineers to write, extend, and maintain automated tests
- Create patterns, templates, and examples that make writing tests easier than skipping
- Shift quality ownership left so developers own testing instead of handing it off
- Stay current on trends in testing, AI assisted development, and modern quality engineering
- Advocate for better tools, smarter processes, and continuous improvement
- Help leadership make informed tradeoffs between speed, coverage, and risk
What You Should Bring
- Strong background in test automation and quality engineering, not just manual QA
- Hands on experience building automated tests using Playwright, Cypress, or similar frameworks
- Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines
- Ability to write production quality code in JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, or similar languages
- Comfort operating as a senior individual contributor and technical leader without direct reports or a large QA team.
- Excellent English communication
Bonus If You Have
- Experience with AI assisted development tools such as Cursor or Copilot
- Experience defining quality practices in fast moving or startup environments
- Familiarity with cloud native architectures and modern deployment models
- Prior experience mentoring engineers or leading quality initiatives across teams
What You Get
- Private health insurance
- 20 days annual leave
- Company provided laptop with IT support
- Paid candidate referral program
- Access to international teams, mentorship, and growth paths
- Flexibility to work remotely
