About the Client
Our client is a US based leading real estate SaaS website and product builder. Its Product and Engineering team is modernising the company’s internal data infrastructure and decision support systems after 16 years of accumulated data, reporting logic, and legacy applications. The company is focused on building trusted, maintainable products that help its Sales, Support, Finance, Success, and operational teams make better decisions.
About the Role
We’re hiring a mid to senior Full Stack Data Engineer to take ownership of a major data platform and application migration.
During the first four to six months, you will modernise legacy reporting workloads, move analytical processing away from MySQL into a scalable warehouse environment, improve ETL and data performance, and modernise the existing decision support interface.
Amazon Redshift is the target warehouse, but candidates with strong experience in comparable platforms such as BigQuery, Snowflake, AWS Glue and Athena, Databricks, or Azure data platforms will also be considered.
You will work directly with business stakeholders to understand what they need from the data, define relevant metrics, improve reporting performance, and deliver a trusted decision support product.
Once the initial migration is substantially complete, the role will transition into broader Product and Engineering work across backend APIs, integrations, frontend development, product features, testing, and ongoing platform improvements.
This role suits a strong software engineer with meaningful experience across databases, data migration, ETL, analytical systems, and application development. The client uses a Cursor first engineering workflow. You will use Cursor as your primary interface for writing code and interacting with AWS and the data platform.
What you will do (first 4 to 6 months)
- Modernise legacy MySQL reporting workloads and move analytical processing into Amazon Redshift or a comparable warehouse architecture.
- Design and maintain ETL or ELT pipelines, incremental data loads, historical snapshots, and data validation processes.
- Migrate or replace existing replication processes such as Skyvia.
- Improve reporting and query performance by separating transactional and analytical workloads.
- Modernise the existing PHP decision support interface using React or another suitable frontend approach.
- Work directly with stakeholders to define reporting requirements, metrics, and how data should be presented.
- Navigate and document a complex historical data environment while maintaining delivery.
- Operate safely within AWS using Cursor.
What comes after
- Own the ongoing support and evolution of the data platform and decision support experience.
- Transition into broader Product and Engineering work.
- Contribute to backend APIs, integrations, frontend development, product features, testing, and ongoing application improvements.
What you must bring
- Mid to senior experience delivering production software applications, data platforms, or both.
- Strong SQL and relational database experience, ideally MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MSSQL.
- Practical experience with ETL, ELT, data integration, migrations, or moving data between systems.
- Experience with a warehouse or analytical platform such as Redshift, BigQuery, Snowflake, AWS Glue and Athena, Databricks, Azure Synapse, Azure Data Lake, or similar.
- Understanding of transactional databases versus analytical warehouses, historical snapshots, incremental loads, and reporting performance.
- Strong general software engineering capability across backend systems, APIs, debugging, testing, and production ownership.
- Experience with React, Angular, Vue, or another modern frontend framework. React is preferred.
- Comfort working with messy legacy systems, tracing data lineage, and reconciling inconsistent definitions.
- Experience working directly with non engineering stakeholders.
- Practical AWS experience.
- Willingness and ability to work exclusively in Cursor.
- Ability and interest in transitioning into broader application and product engineering after the initial migration.
Nice to have
- Deep Amazon Redshift experience.
- Experience migrating reporting workloads away from MySQL.
- Experience with Skyvia, Fivetran, Stitch, Airbyte, or similar replication tools.
- Dimensional data modelling experience.
- Strong React experience.
- Familiarity with legacy PHP applications.
How we work
- Cursor first engineering: Code, AWS, and data platform interaction happen through Cursor.
- Product minded delivery: The data must be trusted, performant, and useful for decision making.
- High ownership: You will investigate, propose, and deliver rather than waiting for a perfect specification.
What you get
- Private health insurance
- 20 days annual leave
- Company provided laptop with IT support
- Paid candidate referral program
- Access to international teams, mentorship, and growth paths
- Flexibility to work remotely
Interview Process
Shortlisted candidates contacted within a week of applying. 2 to 3 weeks for decision following 1st interview.
Candidates should be prepared to discuss relevant SQL, ETL, warehouse, migration, application engineering, and Cursor experience.
