What You’ll Actually Do
This is not a mindless data-entry job. It’s for someone who understands how clean books drive business decisions. You’ll do more than crunch numbers—you’ll bring order, consistency, and visibility to the financial backbone of the business. You’ll handle month-end, track project costs, and keep the company out of trouble (and ahead of the game).
Core Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate general ledger entries and reconciliations
- Own the month-end and year-end close process
- Record and reconcile payroll, bank, and credit card transactions
- Manage accounts payable and receivable workflows
- Support the preparation of internal financial reports and statements
- Document and improve financial processes, controls, and compliance steps
- Track financial performance at the project level (job costing, WIP, billing milestones)
- Ensure transactions are booked correctly across GL accounts and projects
- Coordinate with the Controller and cross-functional teams on budget and forecasting
What Success Looks Like
- You consistently deliver accurate journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close with minimal issues
- You produce clear, reliable financial reports that help guide business decisions
- You collaborate well with finance and cross-functional teams
- You actively improve accounting systems, processes, and internal controls
- You’re detail-driven, accountable, and confident working with accrual-based accounting and problem-solving
Must-Have Experience
- 2+ years of accounting experience, ideally including project or job costing
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, accrual accounting, and month-end close
- Experience with accounting software (QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage, or similar)
- Proficient in Excel; can organize and analyze data with confidence
- Comfortable communicating with finance and non-finance people alike
- Proactive mindset—you fix inefficiencies and raise your hand when something’s off
Bonus
- CMA certification or working toward it
- Experience in construction, energy, professional services, or government contracting
- Familiarity with project-based billing and revenue recognition
- Knowledge of WIP schedules, time-and-materials billing, or % of completion methods
