About the Role
We’re hiring a mid to senior Full Stack Data Engineer to take ownership of a focused data platform and application migration. During the first four to six months, you will replace brittle reporting SQL and MySQL views with an extensible Amazon Redshift data warehouse, redirect existing replication processes so analytical data lands in Redshift, and rebuild the existing PHP decision support interface as a modern React application within a portal.
You will work directly with business stakeholders to understand the decisions they need to make, define the relevant metrics and dimensions, and deliver a trusted data product that supports those decisions. You will need to navigate a complex historical data environment, trace data lineage, reconcile inconsistent definitions, and make pragmatic decisions without delaying delivery.
This role is ideal if you are technically strong, comfortable taking ownership of unclear and complex problems, and want to work with an international company while staying based in Macedonia. It will suit someone who can work across data engineering, backend systems, cloud infrastructure, and frontend product development rather than operating within a narrow engineering function.
The client uses a Cursor first engineering workflow. You will use Cursor as your primary interface for writing code, provisioning infrastructure, and interacting with AWS and Amazon Redshift. Traditional workflows based exclusively on a standard IDE, the AWS console, or ticket driven operations are not how this team works.
What you will do (first 4-6 months)
- Design and build an extensible Amazon Redshift data warehouse that replaces the views and native SQL currently hitting our reporting MySQL instance.
- Shut down or migrate existing third-party replication (Skyvia and similar) so operational and analytical data lands in Redshift, not MySQL.
- Rebuild the decision-support front end from PHP into React within the client portal, wired to the new warehouse.
- Work with business stakeholders to clarify requirements: what decisions they need to make, what metrics and dimensions matter, and how the product should surface them.
- Document and rationalize a long-lived, messy data estate without freezing delivery.
- Operate safely in AWS using Cursor: schemas, pipelines, access patterns, and operational hygiene that a mid/senior engineer would be proud of.
What comes after
- Own ongoing support and evolution of the Redshift warehouse and Portal decision-support experience.
- Expand into other Product efforts as capacity frees up in 2027, while remaining the primary owner of the decision-support platform.
What you must bring
- Experience delivering production data platforms and/or full-stack product features end to end.
- Deep hands-on expertise in both MySQL and Amazon Redshift
- Proven ability to replace legacy reporting SQL/views with a clean, extensible warehouse model.
- Strong React skills sufficient to rebuild a business-critical internal application or the reverse profile: a warehouse specialist who has shipped real React UIs. Either path works if both sides are credible.
- Comfort working in a messy historical data estate: tracing lineage, reconciling definitions, and making pragmatic tradeoffs.
- Experience partnering with non-engineering stakeholders to turn decision needs into data products.
- Fluency working in AWS (IAM, networking basics, Redshift administration) via modern tooling—not ticket-driven ops theater.
- Willingness and ability to work exclusively in Cursor for coding and cloud/data interaction.
Nice to have
- Prior migrations off ETL/replication tools (Skyvia, Fivetran, Stitch, etc.) onto warehouse-native or first-party pipelines.
- Experience with internal analytics / BI / ops tooling used by Sales, Support, or Finance teams.
- Familiarity with PHP legacy apps (enough to read and replace, not maintain forever).
- Exposure to employee/admin portal React architectures or design systems.
